Festival Life

CWHS has a rich history of seasonal celebrations for both our school community and the Chicago community. Beginning with Michaelmas in the fall and continuing through May Fair in the spring, our annual calendar is filled with events to help us reflect and celebrate.

A year of celebration

Our school year is filled with gatherings, ceremonies, and events of all kinds. Here are a few you’ll attend when you join our community:

May Fair

Our spring street festival is open to the entire Chicago community. May Fair features artisan vendors, local food, and activities for everyone. This is the largest festival of the year and you won’t want to miss it!

Holiday Fair

Every winter, we transform the school into a holiday market! Buy gifts from local artists, eat seasonal treats from Chicago restaurants, and even shop at our student-run thrift store!

Día de Muertos

Day of the Dead is important for our community, as we honor and celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost. Ofrendas are made throughout the school and the day itself culminates in a reflective ceremony in the auditorium.

Michaelmas

A Waldorf school tradition all over the world, Michaelmas celebrates community, courage, and resilience. As the fall arrives, the school year begins, and the days grow shorter, we take a day to honor the relationships that give us strength in the face of adversity.

And many more

These are just a few of the many traditions, cultures, and ceremonies are celebrated throughout the year, as members of our diverse community share themselves with each other in and out of the classroom.
